Bringing Vietnam Home
BỘAT PEÔPLE SAUCE
Boat People Sauce
Our Story
[3rd Generation - Granddaughter]
In 1980 roughly 19,000 Vietnamese refugees resettled in the UK. From Hong Kong Refugee Camps to Sopley Refugee Centre in Hampshire. The British Red Cross Volunteers kindly welcomed them to their new home.
We were one of those thousands of families restarting our lives in a foreign country with a foreign language. They called us the 'Boat People'.
We're so grateful to have been given a new opportunity to start our new life here - after Sopley Refugee Centre we moved to Bristol before our final destination where we now call home, London.
Although there was a limitation of options and variety of food selections in our local markets - our grandparents made sure that traditional Vietnamese food was still passed down to us. Teaching us everything from traditional values to cooking Vietnamese food and condiments.
This is for them ... Boat People Sauce. Bring Vietnam Home.
